Cozy up with perfect-for-winter wines, from a buttery chardonnay to a smoky Spanish monastrell

Falcor “Durell” Chardonnay 2005 (Sonoma Valley, California), $45: This creamy chardonnay has flavors of butter, toasted oak, ripe apples, and vanilla, making it a fantastic wine to sip while lounging in front of a fire. Carpineto “Dogajolo” Toscano Rosso IGT 2007 (Tuscany, Italy), $12: A blend of sangiovese and cabernet sauvignon varietals give this wine flavors of coffee, red cherries, vanilla, and spice. This “Super Tuscan” tastes great with any grilled meat. Bodegas Hijos de Juan Gil Monastrell 2007 (Jumilla, Spain), $16: This red wine has flavors of red berries and smoked wood with sweet, well-integrated tannins. Pair it with your beef stew or roasted lamb for a cozy, cold-weather meal. Bodegas Rey Fernando de Castilla Pedro Ximenez Sherry NV (Spain), $35: Flavors of coffee, figs, and licorice in this sherry make it the perfect nightcap on a frosty night. For an even better treat, enjoy it with a bit of chocolate. Mollydooker “The Boxer” Shiraz 2008 (McLaren Vale, Australia), $25: A shiraz from Australia is a great way to warm up. Try this Mollydooker, Australian lingo for “left-hander,” with flavors of black cherry, raspberry, and chocolate.
