If it’s a burger and fries you are after, you will find it at Surf Bar. Legendary for its pup-friendly deck and flatscreens looping vintage surf flicks, this laid-back spot also excels at chicken and tuna seared on a wood-burning grill. Shoestring fries and giant beer-battered onion rings come with a house sauce for dipping: a garlicky roasted red pepper mayo that a friend dubs one of her “desert island foods.” Bands set up beneath mounted surfboards, and the staff always seem to be having as much fun as the patrons. A central fireplace roars anytime it’s cold enough, dark enough, or wet enough to light it up.

Open Monday-Friday, 4 p.m.-2 a.m., & Saturday & Sunday, noon-2 a.m. 103 W. Cooper Ave., (843) 588-2009, surfbarfollybeach.com
