Carry on

Local minimalist bag and luggage maker J. Stark has moved its flagship store and production facility to King Street. The new space retains the “dad’s den” aesthetic of the Coming Street shop, which opened in 2017, and includes a lounge area styled as a vintage camp. They eventually plan to host extended hours on Fridays with beverages and live music. The new location allows passersby to peek in the windows to see the products being sewn and features a custom wall where shoppers can choose from fabric and color swatches or add gold foil monogramming to create their own bags. In addition to its timeless backpacks, briefcases, and totes, J. Stark is introducing a fanny pack and five new wallet styles. [489 King St., starkmade.com]

Beach Days Ahead

Popular lifestyle brand The Salt Life, which celebrates active days spent on the sand and in the sea, has opened its first South Carolina location on King Street. The brick-and-mortar offers clothing, such as board shorts, fishing shirts, swimsuits, and sun hats for men, women and children, as well as beach chairs, towels, sunglasses, and coolers, many featuring the “Salty Times Ahead” tag line. The Georgia-based company has nine retail stores, including locations in Florida and California. [316 King St., saltlife.com]

Special Treatment

With the philosophy “more is not always more,” board-certified nurse practitioner April Cannon Nius, who spent more than 10 years in New York City working with renowned dermatologist Dr. Bruce Katz, and business partner Dr. Dan Ripley have debuted the Coastal Collective wellness and aesthetic practice in Mount Pleasant. The wellness spa offers nutrient-rich IV therapies, IV facials, lasers, fillers, and Botox. ”I love taking a naturally lovely canvas and making small improvements that help clients feel and look their best,” says Nius.
