Style Q&A: The Stripe’s Grace Atwood shares how her classic girl and her inner “Palm Springs grandma” styles co-exist

Find out the blogger’s ideal Charleston shopping itinerary

After The Stripe lifestyle blogger took her parents on a trip to Charleston, they decided to retire to the Holy City, and Grace and her sister Rebecca, a textile designer, soon followed from New York. Since then, Atwood has continued to grow her popular blog “for the stylish bookworm” (which she launched in 2010). She recently bought her first house and found a new home for her musings on Substack. Here, the former social media director shares her favorite style picks—a mashup of understated classics and her “inner Palm Springs grandma,” who wants to wear colorful caftans, bold jewelry, and platform heels.

Q What’s your ideal shopping day in Charleston?
A
Start on lower King with Beau & Ro. Then, Lake pajamas, Roller Rabbit, Loeffler Randall, and Minnow. Minnow’s striped sweaters (above) are so cozy. Take a detour to Holst & Lee on State Street for fun jewelry and gifts. Back on King, ogling pretty jewels at Croghan’s is a must! And Hampden Clothing may be my favorite store in the world.

Q Will you buy a dress for Easter celebrations?
A
Yes! I have been loving all of Rhode’s colorful styles, same with Borgo de Nor (available at Saks Fifth Avenue), and La Ligne—the fit of their dresses is perfect!

Q What item in your wardrobe couldn’t you live without?
A
I am a massive fan of La Vie Style House’s caftans. They are beautifully made and just fun to wear. I love the 3D-lace signature caftan (left) but wore a sequined one on New Year’s Eve and maybe loved it even more.

Q Do you have a signature accessory?
A
My most-worn piece is my Sherman-Field locket. It has photos of my cats and my boyfriend, plus four essential words. Two are values I try to live by (discipline and creativity) and the others are things I want more of in my life (love and joy). I also have a bracelet I wear constantly along with a men’s Rolex I bought on The RealReal and my lab-grown diamond tennis bracelet from Dorsey (above).

Q Are you incorporating Pantone’s Color of the Year “Peach Fuzz” into your wardrobe or home decor?
A
I love tangerine (which is similar to peach fuzz) as an accent color. The “Dashes” fabric—designed by my incredible sister Rebecca Atwood—has been a favorite of mine forever. I used it to make drapes in my bedroom, as well as a small pillow (above). My bedroom is otherwise rather neutral; I love that this adds a bit of warmth. It’s a really comforting color.
