The Party: Since 2010, Society 1858—the Gibbes Museum of Art’s group of young professionals that support the museum—has thrown a celebration to recognize an up-and-coming artist. This year’s honoree and winner of the Prize for Contemporary Southern Art was Georgia-based ceramicist Donté K. Hayes, whose work was on display. While looking at other artists’ pieces up for grabs in the raffle, guests listened to music by DJ C.Nile and Sista Misses and indulged in hors d’oeuvres by Salthouse Catering and drinks from MIX bartending services.
Highlight: The raffle of 10 pieces of art made by local artist pairs
Overheard: “Wow, that’s really cool how the two artists combined their different mediums into one piece!”
Beneficiary: Gibbes Museum of Art and the 1858 Prize for Contemporary Southern Art
