MADE IN THE SHADE: With “the Kiawah look” in mind, Suzie and Mark Dajani built their dream home—a blend of Northeastern shingle-style architecture with classic Southern touches—on James Island.
The infinity pool appears to spill into the marsh and Intracoastal Waterway.
CREEKSIDE CHARMS: A wall of windows opens to bring the home’s indoor and outdoor living spaces together, offering expansive views of Wappoo Creek from the front of the home to the back.
Hundreds of glass circles in the Currey and Company chandelier play with the ever-shifting light outside. A large oil painting by Barbara Flowers highlights the living room. The striking work of white hydrangeas captivated Suzie the moment she saw it in the window of Principle Gallery in Charleston.
MUTED HUES: The Dajanis’ color palette is muted blues and greys, alongside yellows, creams, and bold browns, all of which stem from the front entry rug, designed at Fine Rugs of Charleston and made in Tibet.
SIT BACK & RELAX: “When we were furnishing the home, the focus was always on how the spaces would be used,” says Theresa T. Morton of Studio TTM, one of the project’s interior designers. Copious seating areas, such as the circular sitting room and upstairs den, boast a multitude of comfy chairs and oversized sofas from Precedent and Sherrill in a collection of subtle, patterned fabrics that complement the exterior views without detracting from their splendor.

EATING IN & OUT: A floating kitchen anchors the home, tying the indoor and outdoor living spaces together. The alfresco Lloyd Flanders dining table and chairs, purchased at GDC Home, is as accessible to the chef as the formal dining room.
The kitchen features a Boos Block island and industrial-style pendant lights from Urban Electric.
Hidden behind the main kitchen area is an innovative butler’s pantry, resplendent with floor-to-ceiling cabinets designed by Robert Paige Cabinetry.
DINNER WITH A VIEW: The home’s formal dining room embraces the outdoors, courtesy of a large wall of windows carefully curved to capture the view of a small olive grove. The custom black walnut dining table, handmade by John Grisanti of Redwood Lumber Company in New York State, curves to the exact contour of the outer wall. A Gabby chandelier and Bernhardt chairs bring a sense of grandeur to the room.
An upholstered four-poster bed from Southeastern Galleries welcomes views of the creek and the garden into the master bedroom. Pendant lights from Currey and Company replace traditional bedside table lamps, and large chests help reduce clutter in this calming space.
Strategically placed windows in the master bathroom bathe the marble tile in natural light without compromising privacy.
A desk, designed by Theresa Morton of Studio TTM and built by Ronnie Harrell of Veneer Works on John’s Island, continues the curve of the circular sitting room nestled in the cupola.
