The Party: The Charleston Library Society was transformed into an elegant social scene On the afternoon of October 12 for high tea and champagne in honor of American design icon Carolyne Roehm’s new book, Design and Style: A Constant Thread. Guests mingled between bites of macaroon before Roehm took the mic, first speaking to the importance of Charleston’s beloved library before eloquently detailing a tale of humble beginnings that lead to a remarkable life in fashion, design, and entertaining. Slides from the book provided an raw, interactive look into the peaks and valleys of a career in the spotlight, providing insight into the challenges associated with designing for varying time periods. Attendees departed the event happily full of pastries with a signed copy of the guest of honor’s 13th work in hand.
Highlight: Roehm’s inspiring concluding note, in which she stated the importance of sticking with the process, as “no person can go through life unscathed, but if I can do it, you can too.”
Overheard: “A tea party with champagne is my kind of tea party!”
