Designer Michael Mitchell merged antiques with modern art and lively color to transform this traditional Daniel Island home.
In the library, which was previously paneled in walnut, a pale mint paint (Farrow & Ball “Cromarty No. 285”), Thibaut “Tiger Flock” wallpaper, pops of pink, and a crystal chandelier achieved the glamorous, New Orleans-inspired aesthetic the homeowner desired.
The feminine vibe from the neighboring library continues in the sitting room. A creamy area rug from Masland anchors the conversation space, with four Hickory Chair wingbacks and an ottomon covered in a Pearson fabric.
In the main stair hall, an abstract triptych by Jeannie Weissglass complements the classic English plaid from Osborne & Little on the antique French settee. The painting, says Mitchell, inspired the design throughout the home.
A tufted-velvet sofa and smaller settee in a soft, sophisticated tweed offer French flair in the family room, while still providing comfort for everyday family living. The bold colors are unified by bright drapes in the Clarence House “Shere Khan” fabric.
In the dining room, pastel pink drapes from Greenhouse Fabrics continue the light, feminine feel, bringing playful hues to the more formal space.
“The pink and orange pattern was inspired by a china pattern the client just loves,” explains the designer.
Two Baker “Butterfield Barrel Chairs” covered in a citrus-green fabric provide the focal point for the striking home office. Peacock feather drapes, a cowhide rug, and two velvet footstools complete the luxe look.
The drapery fabric from the living room appears again on the valances in the bright, white kitchen and breakfast nook.
In the master bedroom, greens, golds, and beiges combine to create a soothing palette, with some playful features in the form of a leopard print Stark carpet and Zoffany velvet-covered antique French chairs.
In contrast, the guest bedroom is a cacophony of cheerful colors, with deep peach drapes, a mirrored antique nightstand, and an elegant gold and crimson lamp from Currey and Company.
