During the Colonial period, bricks were often produced using a clamp kiln built temporarily on each job site. This winter, Tidewater Brick Co. fired its first batch of raw bricks in a clamp (shown here still in progress) at 1630 Meeting Street.
Fire bakes the bricks for three days.
American College of the Building Arts students helped construct the clamp.
