Nursery Rhyme
November 2011
One-Room Revamp Challenge Homeowner Runner-Up: Annie Hamnett, West Ashley

Before:

When public relations executive Annie Hamnett and her husband Matt learned they were expecting their first child, they put their home office to work as a nursery for their new addition. “The room is so much fresher, brighter, and softer now,” says Annie. “We wanted it to work well for a girl or a boy, so I started with fabrics that could pull that off.” Plus, Annie says, the room flows better with the rest of the house now.

“We could really get excited about the purpose of the room, so that made a big difference!”

What She Did:
1. Chose a baby-friendly color palette of citrine yellow and shades of gray and blue.
2. Recarpeted with nylon Berber floor covering.
3. Replaced utilitarian office furniture with comfortable nursery pieces, like a turquoise bureau from Celadon, West Elm daybed, and a glider from Baby Bloomers.
4. Added a simple overhead light fixture in place of the existing leaf-pattern fan.
