Learn her must-haves for the spring

Most recently, the College of Charleston grad, who has studio space at the Charleston Artist Collective, has been working on a surfer series (below), inspired by growing up on Pawleys Island and 1970s West Coast surf culture, with plans to create wallpaper using the prints. During the past month or so, she’s found time to continue creating while caring for her two children, who are under the age of three. Here, she talks about her love for denim, how she achieves glowing skin, and what she’s looking forward to once social distancing is no longer required

Q Which spring/summer collections and trends are you most excited about?
A
I absolutely love anything ‘70s- or ‘90s-inspired because those eras had silhouettes that highlighted women’s bodies in the best way. Reformation and HVN are the best when it comes to vintage-inspired prints and fits. Everything in their spring lines feels like something I would find in my mom’s closet in 1972 but with an updated shape. My style wouldn’t be me without a great-fitting jumpsuit. They are so functional for me, and rocking a denim jumpsuit is just cool.

Q What piece of clothing are you most looking forward to wearing when we can be social again? Where will you go?
A
I recently bought a knit skirt from Buru. I can’t wait to wear it with a boxy, white cropped T-shirt and my Golden Goose sneakers. I am looking forward to going to Babas on Cannon for a cocktail and then an outdoor concert.

“I feel my best and most visually creative work can’t be planned. In other words, when inspiration strikes, I go for it!”

Q Describe your style.
A
Vintage feminine mixed with New Age industrial. I love anything with a ‘90s feel, but my work requires me to be comfortable and functional, too. I am a denim fanatic, so you will often find me in jeans and an interesting top.

Q Tell us about your favorite Mother’s Day gift. What are you wishing for this year?
A
For my first Mother’s Day, my husband bought me the “Boyfriend Necklace” from Casuarina Jewelry. It’s simple but so different from anything I’ve seen. I wear it with everything. This year, I just want my family and friends to stay healthy and maybe, if I’m lucky, a massage to de-stress after being cooped up.

Q Who do you follow on Instagram for inspiration?
A
Locally, I love the Instagram feed of Basic Projects. I like how they have a design style that is stripped down and incorporates some really cool artistic elements. It’s new coastal meets old world Europe.

Q You have such glowing skin! What is your skin-care routine?
A
About four years ago, I switched to Biologique Recherche products. I got really bad melasma when pregnant with my son, Press, and these products changed my skin. My favorites are “Lotion P50 Original 1970,” “Masque Vivant,” and “Crème PIGM 400” dark spot correcting cream. The ladies at Spa Azure have taught me so much about my skin. As for makeup, I love Glossier’s “Future Dew” for a glowy look, “Boy Brow” for full brows, and “Generation G” in “Cake” matte lipstick. My trick is to line my lips with a Maybelline eyebrow pencil; it creates the ultimate neutral matte lip.
