The Royale

Experience Marco Ramirez’s knock-out play The Royale as it hits the PURE Theatre stage. It’s 1905, and Jay “the Sport” Jackson’s only dream is to become the heavyweight boxing champion of the world, but within the violently segregated world where he lives, the boxer’s chances are slim. With the assistance of a shady promoter, Jackson may land a fight with the reigning white heavyweight champ, giving him a chance to make it big. This incredible story, loosely based on real events, sheds light on the complex relationship society has with race and cultural heroes.
