”THE IMAGE HUNTER: ON THE TRAIL OF JOHN JAMES AUDUBON”

Known only by a single name, Hitnes is a contemporary artist whose work leaps from graffiti to fine art. Originally from Rome, Italy, Hitnes was so inspired by John James Audubon—the ornithologist famous for documenting and illustrating American birds—that he traveled across North America in three months in Audubon’s footsteps, an endeavor that resulted in the creation of public murals, video footage, and a collection of materials from all corners of the country. A variety of work informed by his journey, including photos, sketches, and found objects is presented through September 29. Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art, 161 Calhoun St. Monday-Saturday, 11am-4pm. Free. (843)953-4422, www.halsey.cofc.edu
