“MIDWAY”

When artist Chris Jordan visited Midway Atoll, a remote island in the North Pacific Ocean located nearly 2,000 miles from the closest continent, he found a haunting scene of waste. The island was littered with dead albatrosses, their stomachs visibly filled with shocking amounts of plastic and garbage found floating in the Pacific. Alongside this poignant exhibit titled “Midway,“ Jordan debuts his latest series of work called “Olympic,“ displaying underwater photos of the world‘s oceans. The juxtaposition of the two shows reveals the unsettling affect of human consumption that he hopes will spark new conversations about ecological preservation. On Wednesday, October 25, his feature film recounting his discovery at Midway Atoll is shown at 7 p.m. at the Charleston Music Hall. Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art, 161 Calhoun St. Monday, Wednesday, Friday, & Saturday, 11am-4pm; Thursday, 11am-7pm. Free. (843)953-4422, www.halsey.cofc.edu
