New retailers, naturally inspired bow ties, and a Galentine’s staycation

Botany’s bow tie designs combine linen with eucalyptus leaves (top, $95) and maton grass ($55).

Think (More) Pink

Just when you thought Park Circle couldn’t get any rosier, Dena Davis, owner of neighborhood gift shop The Pink Crocodile, has opened a second store, The Boutique, in the Marquis Station complex. Fans of the original will be happy to find similar wares, but with a wider selection of trendy women’s clothing, including sizes from small to 3X. Look out for a slew of new items—including undergarments, hats, and body products—to line the shelves come spring. 1021 E. Montague Ave., Ste. 102, North Charleston,

Naturally Handsome

Back in 2013, photographer Irmantas Dragunas was preparing to attend a Gatsby-themed party at Charleston’s Old City Jail. Needing a pop of red, he added rose petals to an old bow tie. Success! “The look and the feeling of that evening changed my perspective on what bow ties could be,” he says. Four years later, Dragunas launched Botany, his brand of naturally inspired bow ties. In the online shop, peruse designs made of eucalyptus leaves (available in four hues: red “aster,” green “elder,” “oats,” and “indigo”), as well as navy- and cream-colored linen ties accented by maton grass. ”In the coming months, I’ll introduce new organic elements like sweetgrass and palm fronds,” notes Dragunas.

Zen Zone

Aiming to be less stressed and more fit in 2018? Urban Yoga Charleston’s new classes might be your saving grace. Last month, the King Street studio began offering Inferno Hot Pilates, blending Pilates, yoga, and H.I.I.T. (High Intensity Interval Training) moves into one super-sweaty, low-impact cardio class. Owner Meg Gray notes, “The strength that you will build with a regular Pilates practice, especially in your core, will help you practice yoga more safely and with more stability.” Also new is a Mysore Ashtanga program, in which students lead their own practice, guided closely by teacher Krista Block.
